Jackie Moore (born 1946 in Jacksonville , Florida ; † November 8, 2019 ) was an American soul and disco singer . She was best known for the hit Precious, Precious (1970) and the disco classic This Time Baby (1979).

Career

Jackie Moore recorded singles for the label Shout and Wand as early as the late 1960s, although these were hardly commercially successful. It was only when he switched to Atlantic that the first hit he had hoped for was achieved: Precious, Precious only reached number 30 in the American charts in 1970, but was awarded gold. Moore was in the top 15 on Billboard's R&B charts . From then on she gained the reputation of an "expressive R&B singer" (Taurus Press), who was especially "pleased with warm soul ballads". Further recordings were released by Atlantic until 1973, including Moore's first LP Sweet Charlie Babe with the southern soul hit of the same name . This was followed by a collaboration with the Kayvette label, which enabled another R&B success with Make me Feel Like a Woman (1975).

A year later, Moore was one of the countless soul stars who tried their luck with disco music: The single Disco Body (Shake It to the East, Shake It to the West) missed the charts. It wasn't until 1979, after moving to Columbia , that Moore celebrated a big hit on the American disco charts: This Time Baby was at the top. Great Britain also took note of the single (49th place). Moore was unable to continue this success, but she remained loyal to the disco genre even in the 1980s. However, she changed the record company frequently. She achieved smaller successes with Helpless and How's Your Life Baby (both 1980).
