Second Round's on Me received mostly average ratings from critics. The Metacritic site calculated an average of 48% from nine reviews from English-language media.

Valerie Timm from laut.de rated the album with four out of a possible five points. It was “overall very dark and thoughtful.” So the rapper processed “the loss of his Shady Records colleague Proof in April 2006 and a drive-by shoot on New Year's Eve 2005.” The single Snitch is described as a “typical catchy tune” and Wanna Know is another “highlight” of the album. The production is also highlighted positively, but "the ultimate classic" is missing "the finishing touches."
