Philipp Hoffmann (teacher)

Philipp Hoffmann (born September 21, 1870 in Westheim (Palatinate) ; † May 10, 1939 in Speyer ) was an agriculture teacher, author and co-founder of the Association of Palatinate Tobacco Growing Associations and the German Tobacco Growing Association.

Life

Hoffmann initially worked as a primary school teacher in various places in Rhineland-Palatinate . From 1895 to 1897 he studied agriculture in Hohenheim and Weihenstephan as well as in Munich. Afterwards Hoffmann returned to his homeland, where he worked as an agricultural hiking teacher in the districts of Germersheim and Speyer . In addition, Hoffmann was director of the agricultural winter school in Bellheim .

In 1909 Hoffmann founded the Association of Palatinate Tobacco Growing Associations in Bellheim together with representatives from local tobacco associations. From its founding until 1939, Hoffmann served as the association's managing director and tobacco building expert. In 1917 Hoffmann was one of the founders of the German Tobacco Association, for which he took over the chairmanship of the technical committee.

In addition to his offices, Hoffmann was also active as an author. In 1916 he founded the magazine Der Deutsche Tabakbau and remained its chief editor until 1939.
