Crooked I

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crooked I (born September 23, 1978 in Los Angeles ; real name Dominick Wickliffe ), also known as KXNG Crooked , is an American rapper and songwriter . He is a member of the rap group Slaughterhouse .

Career

At the beginning of his career, Crooked I was briefly under contract with Virgin Records . There he appeared on various compilations , including the soundtrack for Caught Up . Then he moved in 1999 to Death Row Records , where he mixtapes published and was heard again on samplers, for example, Too Gangsta for Radio and dysfunctional family . His planned debut album Say Hi to the Bad Guy never came out. After four years he left the label and started his own company, Dynasty Entertainment , an imprint of Treacherous Records , whose products were distributed by Universal . However, he was unable to publish a work here either , as Suge Knight , the owner of Death Row, sued him because he believed that Crooked I was still under contract with him. Nevertheless, other mixtapes, DVDs and guest appearances appeared on pieces by other artists, such as Ashanti's Baby , which reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 89 in the German single charts .

His own single Boom Boom Clap followed in 2005 , for which a music video was also shot.

After solving the legal problems, he caused a stir when he started his series Hip-Hop Weekly - in the course of this campaign he put a song every week for free download on the Internet for a year.

In 2008 another single was released with Dream Big , on which Akon was represented as a guest singer. It should be the harbinger of his album BOSS . Later, however, it was decided not to sell this work in stores, but also to offer it for free download.

In the same year, the group Slaughterhouse came together, of which he became a member. The album of the same name was released in 2009. Crooked I also brought the EP Mr. Pigface Weapon Waist with guest appearances by Snoop Dogg , MOP and Slaughterhouse members Joe Budden , Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9 ″ .

In August 2010 the EP Planet COB Vol. 1 was published , in July 2011 the successor Planet COB Vol. 2 was published. With Slaughterhouse he released the album Welcome to: Our House (2012) as well as the mixtapes On the House (2012) and House Rules (2014).

In 2013 his debut album Apex Predator was released , which contains tracks with Tech N9ne and K-Young. He released his second album, Sex, Money and Hip-Hop , in December 2014 under the pseudonym KXNG Crooked.

With Statik Selektah he founded the duo Statik KXNG in 2016 , which released an album under the same name.
