Wendy's is a fast food restaurant - chain , created in 1969 by Dave Thomas was founded and especially in the USA and Canada is active. There are currently more than 6,700 Wendy's restaurants in 27 countries. Wendy's menu includes hamburgers , french fries and sandwiches , among others .
Wendy's is a subsidiary of Wendy's International . Sales in 2011 were US $ 2.4 billion. 5200 branches are operated by franchisees , 1400 by the company itself.
The company's founder Dave Thomas named the first restaurant after the nickname of his then eight-year-old daughter Melinda Lou. He also founded the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption . Thomas passed away in 2002 after running the company for 33 years.
In October 2012 the name was changed from Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers to Wendy's and a new logo was introduced, which was officially introduced in February 2013. In addition, new work clothes for employees of the restaurant chain were introduced.
Company history in Germany
In the 1980s the chain tried to gain a foothold in Germany: In regions inhabited by American soldiers or heavily frequented by American tourists, "areas" were set up, each with several branches. Areas were in Munich / Augsburg / Landshut , in Nuremberg / Fürth , in the greater Frankfurt am Main , Cologne / Bonn , Heidelberg / Mannheim / Worms as well as Baumholder , Hanau , Gelsenkirchen and Landstuhl . The company later withdrew completely from Germany.
