action

Lina, the spirited leader of the East LA cheerleading team, wants to turn her team into all-stars. This is a competition where the best cheerleaders show their skills. All-Star Championships winners receive a trophy and an All-Star bracelet to identify the All-Stars.

After Lina's mother, Isabel Henry, married, they move into a large house in Malibu , where Lina meets her stepsister Skyler. At first Lina is a little skeptical and doesn't think that the marriage between her stepfather Henry and her mother will last long, so she initially behaves rather bitchy towards Henry and Skyler. At her new school, Malibu Vista High School, she meets Avery, who is the captain of the Jaguars. They won the All-Star Championships last year. Lina's attempt to initiate a normal conversation fails after making insulting statements. Lina and Avery also clash during breaks. Skyler reveals to Lina that Avery used to be a cheerleader for the Sea Lions. But she left the team because she was not elected captain. She took the best cheerleaders and started the Jaguars.

As the film progresses, Lina gets closer to Evan, Avery's brother, and she becomes captain of the Sea Lions. But since these are not really good, she gets help from Gloria and Trey. They should move in with Lina and go to school with her. When the Sea Lions make a mistake during a game, Avery rushes onto the field with the Jaguars, trying to save the show in their opinion. Avery later learns from Kayla that the Sea Lions want to compete in the championships. She is afraid that the Sea Lions can really beat the Jaguars, so she complains to the principal because Gloria and Treyvonetta were accepted at school so quickly. Usually the school has a long waiting list, so Gloria and Trey are no longer allowed to teach there and have to go back home to East LA

At a party to which Gloria and Trey are also invited, the conversation between Avery and Lina escalates because Avery has insulted her friends, family and her origins. Angry, she runs outside, whereupon Evan follows her. The two quarrel and Lina ends the relationship between the two. She also wants to leave the Sea Lions and move to Gloria in East LA. Trey and Gloria make it clear to her that she shouldn't do this and encourage her to continue. However, there is another problem. Still not having a sponsor, some cheerleaders are leaving the Sea Lions. Lina has an idea and goes on a trip to East LA with the remaining Sea Lions, where Gloria has found a sponsor for them. It is a place where some of Lina's old team work as volunteers. Victor, Gloria's friend, also boxed there and built a few boxing steps into the choreography . Lina combines the Sea Lions with East LA and this becomes the Malibu dream team.

At school, Evan publicly kisses Lina and confesses his love to her. Avery notices this too, to which she reacts angrily. The All Star Championship takes place shortly afterwards. The Jaguars, the Malibu Dream Team and two other teams make it to the finals. However, the Malibu dream team can win. Avery is devastated, but refuses to get on with Lina. Evan signals to Lina that she should call him later. At the end a photo is taken of Lina, Gloria, Trey and Sky holding the trophy. Lina frames this picture and says that all her sisters are on it now and Lina can get along better with her stepfather Henry too.

criticism

"Fifth part of the" Bring it on "series, which again tells of the successful struggle of social outsiders against social higher-ups, but only strings old-fashioned jokes and simple-minded gags."
