Christos ( Greek Χριστός ( m sg.. )) And Christos Rachon , Christos Raches or shortly also Raches , is a mountain village on the Greek island of Ikaria to about 500 meters above sea level. The settlement in the west of the island is about five kilometers inland from the coastal towns of Nas and Armenistis . Christos was the administrative center of the western part of the island, which was the independent municipality of Raches until 2010 .

In the pedestrian area of Raches

Located in the middle of pine forests , around 350 people live in Christos Raches. Ikaria, which is often referred to as the "red rock", finds a communist stronghold in Christos Raches . Furthermore, Christos Raches is worth mentioning because the population, in contrast to other mountain villages on Greek islands, has a completely different rhythm of life. While the mornings and afternoons are typically overslept for the Mediterranean region, the residents of Christos Raches wake up much later than the residents of other mountain villages: at 9 p.m. the place begins to come to life, at midnight the last shops open against the "day" ends at three o'clock.

From July 1947, Christos Raches was the place of exile for Mikis Theodorakis .
