Ioannis Gounaris ( Greek Γιάννης Γούναρης , born July 6, 1952 in Thessaloniki ) is a former Greek football player .

Player career

Gounaris began his career with Greek fourth division club Makedonikos Neapolis FC. In 1970 he moved to his first professional club PAOK Thessaloniki . In Thessaloniki Gounaris won a league title and twice the Greek Cup. In 1982 he went to Olympiacos for two years. In the port city, however, he could not win a title. He ended his career in 1985.

Internationally, he played 27 times for Greece. Gounaris played at the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy , where he was used once.

After the playing career

Gounaris took over in 1989 for a game as interim coach Olympiacos Piraeus. Other clubs that coached were Niki Volos, PAS Ioannina , Pathrakikos FC and Lemia FC.
