Michael Melka (born July 9, 1978 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Melka began his career with the youth team at Borussia Dortmund , then went to Hasper SV and came to FC Remscheid via Hammer SpVg , where he played in the 1998/99 season. He then played for Prussia Münster for two years before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach .

In many cases, Melka was only the third goalkeeper in Mönchengladbach, so he only made eight Bundesliga games. For the 2007/08 season he moved to the then regional division Fortuna Düsseldorf .

On the 8th match day of the 2007/08 season , Melka cracked the record set by Düsseldorf's former goalkeeper Jörg Schmadtke from the 1992/93 season when he set a record for the Düsseldorf team with 708 minutes without a goal. Melka stayed without conceding a goal for 802 minutes. With the team he ended up third in the table, just behind the two promoted places to the 2nd Bundesliga .

Instead, Michael Melka qualified with Fortuna for the newly founded 3rd professional league . He played all 38 games in the 2008/09 season and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga on the last matchday after a 1-0 win against Werder Bremen's second team. There he had to be replaced injured on the 1st match day. He was out for several months and lost his regular place. It wasn't until the following season that he became number one again in the Fortuna jersey. After another injury in February 2011, he only had a place on the bench for the rest of the second half of the season.

For the 2011/12 season Melka moved to the second division relegated Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , with whom he was relegated from the third division to the regional league. In May 2012 he moved to the third division newcomer Alemannia Aachen . There he dissolved his contract on January 24, 2013 and ended his active career the following summer.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Melka became goalkeeping coach of the Düsseldorfer SC 99 in the Lower Rhine regional league .
