Linton Maina (born June 23, 1999 in Berlin ) is a German soccer player .

Career

Club career

Born in Berlin as the son of a Kenyan, Maina started playing football at SV Pfefferwerk when he was four. In 2011 he joined the youth team at SV Empor Berlin . In 2014 he moved to Hanover to join the 96 juniors . In the A-Junioren-Bundesliga he scored eleven goals in 45 appearances. From November 2017, at the age of 18, he trained with the professional team and was used in friendly matches. In February 2018 he signed a four-year professional contract with Hannover 96. On March 18, 2018, he was in the squad for the first time in the 0-1 away defeat against Borussia Dortmund and came on for Marvin Bakalorz in the 86th minute .

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Maina was finally promoted to the pros. After a successful preparation, he played in the first round of the DFB Cup against Karlsruher SC for the first time in the starting line-up. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on matchday 11 in a 2-1 win in the Lower Saxony enderby against VfL Wolfsburg .

National team

Maina was appointed to the German U16 national team in 2014 and made her debut on November 13, 2014 in a 4-0 away win against the Czech Republic . Since then he has gone through all ages up to U19 .
