The SV Empor Berlin is a sports club in the Berlin district of Pankow . He went from 1,990 in 1949 founded BSG Empor HO Berlin forth and has about 1,700 members in the departments badminton , basketball , football , weight lifting , aerobics , weight training , chess , volleyball and hiking are active. Around 600 athletes make up the soccer department, making it the largest soccer club in the district. Almost all of the youth teams play in the top division of the Berlin Football Association . The first men's team plays in the Berlin League and finished 10th in the 2016/17 season.

history

The club was founded in 1949 as the company sports association (BSG) of the trade organization (HO) under the name BSG HO Berlin . Initially, 60 members were divided between the boxing, ice skating, soccer and handball sports sections. Cycling, rowing and swimming were added later, so that by the end of 1950 the number of members had grown to 800. In 1951 the Polish sports club PKS Zryw Berlin became part of the BSG. With the formation of the sports associations , the BSG was connected to the SV Empor in the early 1950s . From 1954 it was called BSG Empor Nord Berlin . In 1963 there was a brief merger with BSG Aufbau Berlin Nord , but this was dissolved again after a year. From 1978 until German reunification, the sports community operated under the name BSG Empor HO Berlin . By 1989 the number of members had risen to 4800 and almost 250 GDR championship and 400 Berlin individual and team championship titles could be won.

On June 27, 1990, the sports club Empor Berlin was founded with 15 sports departments and 1290 members, 438 of them children and young people.

The boxers were able to win the GDR team championship title and individual title 3 times.

The BSG Empor took over the team of SG Grün-Weiß Pankow , which had become vice-champion behind SG Frankenhausen when the first Eastern Zone Championship was held in 1949 . In the following year they were again second behind Frankenhausen and thus qualified for the new DS league (the later league ). In its premiere year , Empor was only fourth. In the following season, the BSG unit Berliner Bär took over the team and the league start authorization from Empor.

During the GDR era, Empors footballers never got beyond the lower leagues of East Berlin . It wasn't until the end of the 1980s that things started to improve: In 1988 and 1991 Empor reached the finals for the FDGB district cup and in 1989 they were promoted to the district league , where the team held out until 1991. In the course of the integration of the GDR teams into the all-German league system , the district league was merged with the previous West Berlin state league . Except for a three-year break, Empor played in the regional league until 2008. In the 2007/08 season, after several attempts, he was finally promoted to the Association League (now the Berlin League ), in which Empor has been playing since then.

Since 2009, the youth department of SV Empor Berlin has been a cooperation partner of Hertha BSC in the "Kiezkicker" initiative. This collaboration was extended further in summer 2013. In June 2013 the soccer youth department was awarded the BFV price for social commitment by the Berlin soccer association. a. the implementation of numerous school groups, the support of the "Respect Gaymes" and the initiation of an open football offer for girls with and without handicaps in the sports youth club Prenzlauer Berg.

Since 2009, the SV Empor operates the program moving enthusiastically to a total of 25 Berlin schools and day care centers. 15 youth trainers from SV Empor have made it their task to introduce children to ball games and to train their motor and coordination skills. The trainers actively approach day-care centers and schools in order to offer an additional exercise and football lesson there every week and to organize tournaments between the day-care centers and schools. In December 2013, the SV Empor Berlin were together with Fortuna Pankow for day care and school project moving enthusiastically awarded the Silver Star of the sport. In March 2015, the project was awarded the Sepp Herberger certificate by the DFB in the field of schools and clubs.

Weight training

The weight training department had its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s . By 1990, most of the GDR masters in weight training (bodybuilding) emerged from it. The best-known and most successful athlete is Peter Hensel, who achieved 6th place in the 1986 IFBB competition Mr. Olympia .

chess

The chess athletes competed in the GDR league. Later you were in the German Chess League until 1998 and also took part in the European Cup. The world-class players and honorary members of the club Wladimir Kramnik (Russia) and Alexander Schirow (Spain) had a. a. Share in these successes. In the all-time table of the German Chess League, SV Empor is in 24th place.
