Status: end of career

Marian Unger (born November 17, 1983 in Markranstädt ), nicknamed "Oli", is a former German soccer goalkeeper and today's goalkeeper coach .

Career

Marian Unger comes from near Leipzig, but grew up in East Berlin. He went to SV Empor Berlin and played there first in the attack and then in the central midfield. Only in the C-youth did he step into goal with a knee injury, liked it and became a goalkeeper. In the B-youth he played at BFC Dynamo before coming to Jena and hiring at FC Carl Zeiss Jena .

After two years in youth, he moved to senior level as the third goalkeeper. Although he moved up to second place in the goalkeeping hierarchy the following year, he lacked the perspective of number one appearances. That came in 2004 with an offer from MSV Neuruppin . In his first year an injury threw him back in the fight for the place between the posts, but finally he prevailed and won the runner-up in the Oberliga Nordost with the club . They also won the national cup and qualified for the DFB Cup.

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season, Unger moved into the national limelight when the MSV had to face FC Bayern Munich in the first round of the cup . Despite the 4-0 defeat, the young goalkeeper showed an outstanding performance. A few weeks later he was invited to a trial training session by Bayern, but it didn't work. At Neuruppin, he was also convincing in the second year, but after the club had missed promotion for the second time in a row as runner-up, he left the east in the direction of Osnabrück.

He joined the regional league team VfL Osnabrück , but was only number two there and only played a few times in the second team in the Oberliga Nord. Since the promotion of the first team to the 2nd Bundesliga reduced his chances of playing even more, he moved within the league to 1. FC Magdeburg . But even there he couldn't get past number one and only played a few games.

When the newly promoted SV Babelsberg 03 was looking for new goalkeepers for the 2008/09 season , Marian Unger seized the opportunity to change. At the Potsdam team he had a very successful season with only 20 goals conceded in 32 games and 17 games to zero. The team reached 3rd place and the 25-year-old goalkeeper was named team captain. With only 16 goals conceded and the regional league championship, the next season was even more successful. Thus, Unger played in a professional league for the first time in the 2010/11 season and for the first time he also played every minute of the entire season, although he was in the meantime questioned because of fluctuating performances, but which showed the entire team. In April 2011 he played his 100th league game for Babelsberg. In July 2012 he signed with FSV Zwickau , where he will play under his former FC Carl Zeiss Jena teammate Torsten Ziegner . With FSV Zwickau, Unger was promoted to the 3rd division in the summer of 2016 , before he left the club a year later after 122 games to join VFC Plauen in the Oberliga NOFV-Süd . On January 1, 2018, Marian Unger moved to FC Thuringia Weida in the Thuringian League , where he ended his career after the 2017/18 season and became goalkeeping coach at the third division Hallescher FC .
