societies
Giefer grew up in the Blankenheim district of Freilingen and began playing football at 1. FC Oberahr. From there he moved to TuRa Lommersdorf and then to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . There he went through the youth departments and in 2008 won the DFB Junior Club Cup with his team . In the 2008/09 season he came to his first missions in the senior division for the second team in the Regionalliga West . In the 2009/10 season he moved up as the third goalkeeper in the professional squad, but continued to play for the second team. He made his Bundesliga debut on November 6, 2009 (12th matchday) in a 4-0 home game against Eintracht Frankfurt , after both goalkeeper René Adler and substitute goalkeeper Benedikt Fernandez had failed. In the following season he was preferred to Fernandez, who was five years his senior, when Adler could not play. In 2010/11 he was used twice when Leverkusen took 2nd place in the championship. On December 1, 2010, Giefer made his European debut in a 1-0 victory in the group game of the UEFA Europa League against Rosenborg Trondheim .
For the 2012/13 season , Giefer moved to another club after nine years of club membership. He also got an offer from record champions FC Bayern Munich , but decided to move to Fortuna Düsseldorf . He signed a two-year contract with the promoted team until June 30, 2014. He made his competitive debut for Fortuna from Düsseldorf in the first main round of the DFB Cup in a 1-0 win at Wacker Burghausen .
In May 2014, Giefer moved to FC Schalke 04 . There he received a contract until June 30, 2018. Giefer started the season as the second goalkeeper behind Ralf Fährmann . During the winter break of 2017, Giefer was loaned to the Football League Championship , the second English division, at Bristol City . He made his debut for the club on January 21, 2017 (27th matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the away game against Nottingham Forest .
On June 8, 2017, it became known that Giefer would no longer return to FC Schalke 04 and move to league rivals FC Augsburg . He received a contract with the Fuggerstadt team until June 30, 2021. He played the first game for his new club on August 25 for the second representation of FCA against FC Bayern II in the Regionalliga; Augsburg won 5: 1. Between summer 2019 and 2020, the man from Palatinate was only in the squad on the last match day.
