Benedikt Fernandez (born January 8, 1985 in Bonn ) is a former German soccer player . His father is Spaniard from Oviedo , his mother comes from Bottrop .
Career
youth
Benedikt Fernandez was a goalkeeper at Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he played from 2000 to 2011, with a half-year break. From July to December 2004 he played on loan at Renault Brühl . Before he came to Bayer for the first time in 2000, he played with TUS Buisdorf and Tura Hennef. He was German A-Junior Vice-Champion U-19, German A-Junior Vice-Cup Winner U-19 and U-20 Country Cup Winner 2005.
Bayer Leverkusen
Fernandez made his Bundesliga debut on February 10, 2007, when Hans Jörg Butt saw the red card in the 30th minute of the game against Eintracht Frankfurt . He was also used as a replacement in the next two seasons if the number one was canceled. In the 2009/10 season, however, he was injured when René Adler could not play, which is why Fabian Giefer , who was five years younger than him, had to step in. In the following season, Giefer was given preference over Fernandez, who was increasingly used as goalkeeper number three in the regional league team.
He played six Bundesliga games, five of them from the start. Fernandez made his international debut in the UEFA Cup match at FC Zurich (5-0).
Fernandez left Leverkusen at the end of the 2010/11 season . In August 2011 he completed a trial training at 1. FSV Mainz 05 , but was not obliged, so that he was from then on without a club.
1. FC Saarbrücken
In May 2012 Fernandez was signed by third division club 1. FC Saarbrücken . There, his contract was not renewed after a season with 18 league matches. In his place, the Saarlanders signed Timo Ochs .
