Luke Hemmerich (born February 9, 1998 in Essen ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with the Würzburger Kickers .

Career

society

youth

Hemmerich grew up in the Niederwenigern district of Hattingen and joined the Niederwenigern sports club as a child . In 2005 he moved to the Bayer 04 Leverkusen youth academy and played there for seven years before joining the Rot-Weiss Essen youth team in 2012 . On January 1, 2014, he moved to the youth performance center of FC Schalke 04 . In the 2015/16 season, Hemmerich played for the A-Jugend in the UEFA Youth League in the 3-2 first leg defeat against Ajax Amsterdam when he was substituted on in the second half. Schalke lost the second leg in Amsterdam 2-0 and was eliminated from the competition. Hemmerich made 19 appearances and three goals in the western season of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga . At the end of the season he finished second with his team behind Borussia Dortmund, which was not enough to qualify for the final round of the German A-Junior Championship . In his last season as a youth, he played in all 26 games in the western season of the A-Junioren-Bundesliga and scored six goals. However, as second in the league - as in the previous year behind Borussia Dortmund - the Schalke U19 qualified for the final round of the German A-Junior Championship this year. The background to this is the DFB's point system , according to which the runner-up in the last strongest of the three Bundesliga seasons is qualified for the final round alongside the three season winners. FC Schalke 04 won the semi-final first leg of the final round 3-1 at Bayern Munich . In the second leg on May 16, 2017, he played his last game for the A-youth. Schalke lost the game in the Wattenscheider Lohrheidestadion 2: 4; here he managed to score 2: 3. Since the away goals rule does not apply in this competition , the penalty shoot-out had to decide on the entry into the final. FC Bayern won the penalty shoot-out with 5: 4 and made it into the final. Hemmerich was able to convert his penalty.

professional

In May 2017 Hemmerich signed a professional contract with Schalke 04, the term of which was extended in August 2017 to June 30, 2020.

On August 28, 2017, Hemmerich switched to the 2nd Bundesliga for VfL Bochum on loan until the end of the 2017/18 season . On September 30, 2017, he played his first second division game in the 3-0 away defeat against Holstein Kiel when he came on for Lukas Hinterseer in the 80th minute .

For the 2018/19 season , Hemmerich did not return to FC Schalke 04, but moved to FC Erzgebirge Aue within the 2nd Bundesliga . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2021.

After Hemmerich had only made two appearances under Daniel Meyer , he switched to the third division Energie Cottbus on loan at the end of January 2019 until the end of the season .

After the relegation of FC Energie Hemmerich did not return to Aue and switched to the Würzburger Kickers , where the defender received a contract that was valid until June 2021. At the end of the 2019/20 season he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Würzburger Kickers .

National team

Hemmerich played the first half of three friendly matches for German junior national teams. For the U18 he was used in April 2016 in a 1-1 draw in Grenchen against Switzerland . He played two games for the U19 national team , a 1: 2 against the Czech Republic in Salou, Spain in November 2016 and a 3: 1 against Denmark in Lübeck in April 2017 .
