Colorado Adventure is a roller coaster in Phantasialand in Brühl . When building it was decided to use a western-style roller coaster and not a roller coaster based on traditional construction.
The track is categorized as a mine roller coaster and, according to votes among roller coaster fans, is regarded as one of the world's best facilities of its kind. Until 2013, the track was nicknamed " The Michael Jackson Thrill Ride" . The track was inaugurated at the start of the season in April 1996 and a little later christened on May 11, 1996 by the eponymous Michael Jackson .
Colorado Adventure originally had five trains with six cars each for a total of 32 passengers. The first car is designed as a locomotive and offers two seats in a row. The other cars have three rows for a total of six people. The visitors must be at least three feet tall to be allowed to ride. The route is divided into five block sections by the three liftills with friction wheel drive, the final brake and the station , so that a maximum of four trains can be on the route at the same time. One train served as a replacement until it was retired. However, if the waiting times are particularly long, operation with five trains on the route is possible thanks to an additional brake, which is located just before the final brake. However, there are waiting times at the final brake, which is why this was only very rarely the case.
The souvenir shop belonging to the train was designed by Salvador Design.
Shortly after the opening, parts of the rock backdrop caught fire due to welding work outside of opening hours. The decoration was renewed and years later, after the major fire of the neighboring mountain railway, it was replaced by fire-resistant materials and partially removed.
Since the residents complained of increased noise pollution, some sections of the railway had to be covered afterwards. At the beginning, apart from the tunnel passages, only the section after the second lift hill was covered with a rock massif. Later, the first part was also provided with roofed noise barriers.
As part of the construction work on Chiapas from 2012 to 2014, there were also modifications to the Colorado Adventure. Theming elements were added in the area of the covered noise protection walls and an artificial rock wall was added next to the second lift hill towards Chiapas. Chiapas' first lift is between Colorado Adventure's second and third lifts. The system, which was previously completely brown, was largely freshly painted for the 2014 season with a new color scheme, the rails in dark gray and the supports in dark green. Furthermore, the wood of the purely decorative sleepers was renewed. The changed routing in the Mexico themed area now also allows you to cross under the route after the last departure.
