The Black Mamba [ ˌblækˈmæmbə ] ( English for " Black Mamba ") is a roller coaster in the Deep in Africa [ ˈdiːp ɪn ˈæfɹɪkə ] (English for "Deep in Africa") of the Phantasialand in Brühl . It is one of the most expensive roller coaster projects in Germany and was opened on May 24, 2006.
Technical
The train planned by the Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) is a so-called inverted coaster in which the train hangs under the rail and the legs are free. The railway is not set on a flat surface, but is closely linked to the terrain by gorges and tunnels, similar to the Nemesis railway in Alton Towers .
The tracks were put together from 70 individual parts with a manufacturing tolerance of 0.15 mm . The low manufacturing tolerance not only helps with the construction, which was started from four different points and therefore had to fit together at four points in the end, but also usually ensures smooth transitions between the rail segments. The rails of the train were filled with sand to ensure a particularly quiet journey.
In addition to the relatively typical for a B & M train rollovers as looping , zero-g roll and corkscrews (at B & M is called trains Flatspin ) is the Black Mamba, the first track with a Inclined Immelmann (including Jr. Immelmann called). In contrast to the normal Immelmann element on roller coasters, the inclined version does not achieve a complete overhead ride. Another special feature is a walkable bridge through the looping.
In the bends, one of which is the manufacturer's narrowest, up to 4.5 g act on the passengers. In ten places, the guests experience so-called near misses (German: almost collisions), in which the train passes so close to the walls that it gives the impression of a collision. The principle of the clearance profile used , however, guarantees that even tall passengers can safely survive the tightest near miss of approx. 50 cm. The route is approx. 66% below the normal level in the subject area, which is 10 m above the lowest point of the track.
The queue to the station is themed as well as the rest of the theme park part "Deep in Africa". There are waterfalls and streams along the way as well as lush planting and some decorative elements. A complex system of hidden speakers conveys a jungle atmosphere. For this purpose, animal voices are reproduced, which move virtually in the room by activating other loudspeakers one after the other, which gives the appearance of the acoustic illusion of a moving animal.
Shortly before the station, the path splits into separate queues for row 1 and rows 2–8. For more corpulent people, rows 4 and 5 each have a slightly larger seat. The passengers must be 10 years old and at least 1.40 m to a maximum of 1.95 m tall to be able to ride.
opening
One day before the official opening on May 24, 2006, there was a so-called pre-opening, in which not only invited guests but also private people could take part by buying tickets for the first trip. The proceeds went to the construction of a school in Malawi as part of the RTL donation marathon .
