Tom Persich (born September 25, 1971 in Weißenfels ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Starts at Halleschen FC
Persich, who was born in Weißenfels, started playing soccer in the neighboring Halle at HFC Chemie , whose youth department he joined in 1977. When Oberliga he succeeded after turning in the summer of 1990 also made it into the first team. In the last independent season of East German first division football , he was used four times. As part of the merging of East and West German football , the defender played a season in the 2nd Bundesliga with the club, which has now been renamed Hallescher FC , in which he also made his professional debut . There was only one game this season. In return, he also played in the UEFA Cup this season . From the following season he played with the relegated Hallensern in the NOFV-Oberliga Mitte , but narrowly missed the chance of promotion behind 1. FC Union Berlin . After another disappointing season for the HFC, in which one could not qualify for the newly created Regionalliga Nordost , Persich moved to 1. FC Union.
At 1. FC Union Berlin
He quickly established himself as a regular player with the "Iron" and was always represented in the top third of the table with the team (later Bundesliga professionals such as Marko Rehmer , Christian Beeck and Ervin Skela played next to him ). Since the club had severe financial problems and was on the verge of bankruptcy, many players switched to other clubs one after the other. In November 1997, Persich also left Union and followed his coach Karsten Heine , who had also recently changed, to SV Babelsberg 03 . Shortly afterwards, other ex-Unioners such as Nico Patschinski or Jörg Schwanke followed .
But since there were financial difficulties in Babelsberg and Union seemed to have been saved again by Michael Kölmel's economic commitment , Persich returned to Köpenick in August 1998 in a package with Schwanke for 50 to 80 thousand DM . After that, things gradually improved. After narrowly missing out on promotion in relegation in 2000 , it finally worked a year later. In addition, the team surprisingly reached the final in the DFB Cup , which was lost 2-0 to FC Schalke 04 , but still secured a place in the UEFA Cup.
In the second division Persich played three seasons with Union before the club relegated again. The first year in particular was very successful with a sixth place at the end and a long battle for promotion to the Bundesliga. In addition, Persich, who was also called “Keiler” by the fans, reached the second round of the UEFA Cup with Union . The following season was mixed. So Union came again to a single-digit place in the table, but changed the coach during the season. The previous game master Georgi Wassilew was followed by Mirko Votava , under whom Persich initially had a difficult position. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to the Unioners, even when the club was relegated twice in a row in the two following catastrophic seasons and ended up in the Oberliga Nordost .
In the 2005/2006 season, the Unioners celebrated their return to the regional league. Persich himself, however, experienced a mixed season in which he was often injured and therefore only played 14 league games. In addition, he was retired from the new coach Christian Schreier before the end of the season together with the returned Jörg Schwanke and Tobias Kurbjuweit and then left after a total of 321 competitive games (in which he scored 16 goals) in a dispute from his long-term club.
At Germania Schöneiche
Then, like some Unioners before him (for example Uwe Borchardt ), he joined the Berlin suburb SV Germania 90 Schöneiche , where his ex-colleague Jens Härtel now worked as a trainer. He played with the Schöneichern from 2006 to 2011 in the Oberliga Nordost and was one of the team's regulars during this time. At the beginning of the 2011/2012 season, Persich ended his playing career and switched to Germania's second team to continue working there as a coach.
