A year later, May finally won the championship with Zwickau and was able to prevail in the subsequent promotion relegation against SV Elversberg .
Despite the third division promotion , the defender left Zwickau and joined the future league competitor Preußen Münster , where he received a two-year contract. For the Adler , Mai had 59 competitive games in two years, in which he scored three goals and five assists. The regular player was out from December 2017 to April 2018 due to a thigh injury.

With the HFC he failed in his first year, in which he was also used more often as a striker, as fourth in the table, only narrowly on promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . Under head coach Torsten Ziegner , Mai was appointed deputy to team captain Jan Washausen in summer 2019 . By the summer of 2020, the Saxon had missed ten league games due to suspensions and a ligament injury, in the remaining he was always in the starting line-up. May scored five goals and one assist in 30 appearances, and after a good run, the defender and Halle had to fight for relegation in the second half of the season. He turned down a subsequent offer to extend the contract.
