The 2011/12 season of the Oberliga was the fourth season of the Oberliga as the fifth highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the 3rd division as the third division in the 2008/09 season and the downgrading of the regional league to the fourth division.

After only four years of existence, the NRW-Liga entered its final season. It was replaced for the following season by the re-introduced Oberliga Westfalen and the Oberliga Niederrhein and Mittelrheinliga . The Oberliga Südwest traded under the name Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar from the following season .

Promotion to the regional league

Regionalliga Bayern

The champions and runners-up of the three seasons of the Bavarian regional league as well as the teams in ranks 10 to 15 in the Bavarian league qualified for the promotion games to the Regionalliga Bayern , which were played in two rounds in the knockout system .

The Würzburger Kickers received a bye for the first round because the eleventh place in the Bayernliga table, FSV Erlangen-Bruck , did not apply for a regional league license and therefore waived the relegation participation.

Regionalliga North

The runner-up in the Schleswig-Holstein League and fifth in the Lower Saxony Oberliga qualified for the promotion games to the Regionalliga Nord . Since the second team of VfL Osnabrück was not eligible for promotion, the table sixth moved up.

Regionalliga Northeast

For the promotion games to the Regionalliga Nordost , the fourth best, eligible and willing teams of the two seasons qualified. It was the fifth placed in the North Squadron, Torgelower SV Greif , and the eighth placed in the South Squadron, VfB Fortuna Chemnitz .

Regionalliga West

For the promotion games to Regionalliga West , the teams of the NRW-Liga qualified in the ranks 4 to 7. Since the second teams from Alemannia Aachen and Arminia Bielefeld were not eligible for promotion, the table eighth and ninth moved up. The champions of the Middle Rhine League , Lower Rhine League and the two seasons of the Westphalia League qualify from the association leagues .

The VfB sleeve received a bye as the champion of the Middle Rhine league, FC Hennef 05 , waived, and rose without a fight to the Regionalliga West. The game between FC Kray and KFC Uerdingen 05 took place in Essen's Uhlenkrugstadion .
