The 1995/96 season of the Oberliga was the second season of the Oberliga as the fourth highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the initially four-track - later three- and two-track - regional league as the third highest division for the 1994/95 season.

Promotion to the regional league

North

The runners-up of the seasons Lower Saxony / Bremen, Göttingen 05 , and Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein, TSV Pansdorf , played the third promoted team in the Regionalliga Nord in two games after the season ended . The first leg in Pansdorf ended with a 1: 1, before the Göttingen won the second leg in their own stadium with 4: 1 and secured promotion to the regional league.

West / Southwest

With a free starting place, the runners-up of the Oberligen Westfalen , Sportfreunde Siegen , Nordrhein , FC Remscheid , and Südwest , TuS Koblenz , played another promoted player in the Regionalliga West / Südwest in a group of three, which was played in a single round .

The group winners FC Remscheid prevailed against the two other applicants due to the highest number of points and made it to the regional league, while the other two teams had to play in the top division in the following season.

The runners-up of the Oberligen Hessen , Viktoria Aschaffenburg , Baden-Württemberg , the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart , and the Bayernliga , SG Quelle Fürth , played another promoted player in the Regionalliga Süd in two rounds in knockout mode . The amateurs of VfB Stuttgart received a bye for the first round.

In the first round, SG Quelle Fürth prevailed against Viktoria Aschaffenburg on penalties on a neutral spot in Schweinfurt's Willy Sachs Stadium and reached the second round.
