The 2000/01 season of the Oberliga was the seventh season of the Oberliga as the fourth highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the initially four-track - later three- and two-track - Regional League as the third highest division for the 1994/95 season.

Promotion to Regionalliga Nord
Oberliga Nord
The leaders of the Lower Saxony / Bremen, Göttingen 05 , and Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein, Holstein Kiel teams, played the promoted team in the Regionalliga in two games after the season ended . The first leg in Kiel ended 2-0 for the home side, before Göttingen clearly won the second leg 3-0 in their own stadium and secured promotion to the regional league in a sporty way. Since the Göttingen did not receive a license for the regional league, Kiel moved up.

Oberliga Nordost
The first in the squadrons North, the amateurs from BFC Dynamo , and South, 1. FC Magdeburg , played the promoted team in the Regionalliga in two games after the end of the season . The first leg in Berlin ended in a goalless draw, before Magdeburg clearly won the second leg in their own stadium 5-2 and secured promotion to the regional league.
