The European Movement Serbia (EM Serbia) is an independent and voluntary citizens' organization. It was founded in 1992 as an impartial, non - profit, non- governmental organization . The European Movement is an independent institution of democratic public opinion and a form of citizens' assembly that advocates peaceful, democratic, pan-European integration, as well as a democratic and modern Serbia as a part of Europe. The European Movement in Serbia has been a member of the European Movement International (EMI) since 1993 .

Projects and tasks

The European Movement in Serbia would like to influence the public in Serbia to create a democratic multi-party society in which the differences between the citizens and their governments disappear. The European Movement in Serbia focuses on promoting European values ​​and achievements and supporting democratic processes and phenomena in Serbia.

As part of EMI, EM Serbia bases its activities on the following values: Recognition of human values, freedoms and rights and ensuring rule of law and appreciation of differences and civilization values. In cooperation with everyone who shares the same values, EM Serbia promotes political and other requirements for Serbia's entry into the EU. In addition, the EM Serbia tries to restore the broken ties with neighboring European countries.

The target group of the projects are schoolchildren, students, young entrepreneurs, local self-government and civil society at the local level. In addition, regional and international partners are among the target group of EB Serbia. The events will take the form of debates, workshops, seminars and research activities. Examples of EB Serbia activities are the Belgrade Security Forum and the "Europe at school" project, as well as economic and business events.

Aims of the European Movement in Serbia

  • Serbia's membership as an equal member in all European institutions and organizations;
  • To spread ideas of European unification in Serbia; Culture, politics and cooperation of the citizens, peoples, regions and states of Europe with the aim of creating a united Europe.
  • To develop a democratic and federal Europe based on rule of law and social justice ;
  • To influence Serbian public opinion in order to pursue Serbia's democratic transition.

history

Just one year after it was founded in 1992, EM Serbia became a member of the European Movement International (EMI) in 1993 . The first issue of the magazine “The Voice of the European Movement in Serbia” appeared in 1994, the following year the European Movement in Serbia published its first book “The EU Treaty - From Rome to Maastricht” in cooperation with international politicians and the Institute for Economics . In 1995 the EM Serbia also celebrated Europe Day for the first time.

The website www.emins.org went online in 1998 and is now a comprehensive source of information on the EU and the process of Serbia's European integration. EM Serbia 2005 selected the best 100 students from all universities in Serbia for the “Traveling to Europe” campaign. To date, around 1000 Serbian students have had the opportunity to visit European cities. Another international project that started in 2007 was the “Welcome to Germany” project in cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. The program is aimed at socially active students. To date, over 240 young people have participated in the program. In 2009 EM Serbia founded the “Coalition for Regional Cooperation and European Integration” (COREI) together with six partner organizations from the region. 2012 celebrated the 20th anniversary of the movement.

The organs of EB Serbia are the executive board, the management and the supervisory board. The members of the management are: Vlastimir Matejić (President), Maja Bobić (General Secretary), Ivan Knežević (Deputy General Secretary), Milorad Stevović (Deputy President), Tanja Miščević (Vice President) and Borivoj Erdeljan (Vice President). Milena Kikić Cicmilović, Predrag Bjelić and Zvonko Brnjas are members of the Supervisory Board.
