Živorad Kovačević
Živorad Kovačević (born May 30, 1930 in Jagodina , † March 23, 2011 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav politician and diplomat .
Life
In 1952 he graduated from the University of Journalism and Diplomacy in Belgrade. In 1961, he earned a master’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley , and then completed postgraduate studies in international relations at Harvard University .
From 1974 to 1982 he was mayor of the Yugoslav capital, Belgrade . He was also general director of the Yugoslav Association of Cities and Towns .
From 1982 to 1986 he was Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Yugoslav Government. From 1987 to 1989 he was Yugoslav Ambassador to the United States . The reason for Kovačević's removal is assumed to be his open and sharp opposition to Slobodan Milošević .
From 1999 he was President of the European Movement Serbia .
