The 3rd DFB indoor women's cup was held on February 3, 1996 . As in the previous year, the venue was Koblenz . The FC-Rumeln Kaldenhausen defeated in the final the Sportfreunde Siegen 3: 2nd For Rumeln-Kaldenhausen (today: FCR 2001 Duisburg) it was the first tournament victory.
Eight teams from the current Bundesliga season took part in the tournament. The teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. Within each group, each team played each other once. The group winners and runners-up reached the semi-finals. The semi-final losers played for third place, the semi-final winners for the tournament victory. If it was a draw from the semi-finals after regular playing time, a nine-meter shootout followed.
