mode

The twelve teams of the current Bundesliga season took part in the tournament. The mode was changed again: the teams were divided into three groups of four teams each. Within each group, each team played each other once. The group winners and runners-up as well as the two group thirds with the best points reached the quarter-finals. If it was a draw from the quarter-finals after regular playing time, a nine-meter shootout followed.
