Matthew "Matt" Taylor (born October 17, 1981 in Columbus , Ohio ) is a retired American football player on the position of the striker .

Career

Taylor played football at UCLA for three years and won the national college championships with his team. After college, he played for the Orange County Blue Stars ; There he was in 2003 for eight games the strike partner of Jürgen Klinsmann , who played there again under the pseudonym Jay Goppingen after his career .

In Major League Soccer he made his debut with the Kansas City Wizards . A season later he switched to the CD Chivas USA and became their first "Player of the Week". He was one of the few non-Hispanic footballers on the team. He left the Chivas after two years because the current coach no longer planned with him. He continued his career with Portland Timbers and Hollywood United FC .

In August 2008 he moved to Germany and played for the second division TuS Koblenz . In his first competitive game he scored his first goal and three goals on matchday seven.

For the 2009/10 season Taylor moved to league competitor FSV Frankfurt . There he signed a contract until 2011. This was terminated prematurely in August 2010. Immediately afterwards he signed a one-year contract with the third division club Rot Weiss Ahlen . There he was third on the scorers list with 17 goals this season in the 2010/11 season . Taylor moved to SC Paderborn 07 for two years in the 2011/12 season . On July 17, 2011 he made his debut in the game against Hansa Rostock under coach Roger Schmidt , when he came on for Alban Meha in the second half . In the 2011/12 season he came on 23 missions for the SCP, in which he scored four goals.

In the summer of 2012, Taylor moved in exchange with Massimo Ornatelli from SC Paderborn to the 3rd division at Preußen Münster . In the game of the first main round of the 2012/13 DFB Cup , he scored three goals in a 4-2 win after extra time against Bundesliga club Werder Bremen . For the 2014/15 season, Taylor did not receive a new contract in Münster. He then went to the Regionalliga Südwest to relegated 1. FC Saarbrücken . There he got a contract until 2016 and should help to lead the club back to the 3rd division. After his contract had expired, he hired the league competitor Kickers Offenbach . There he was planned as a leading player, but could not meet expectations and announced his early retirement in the summer of 2017 after 23 league appearances with two goals and one assist .

Taylor was named "Sportsman of the Year" by the Sports Association of the City of Münster at the Ball des Sports 2012.
