Career

Massimo Ornatelli's father came to Dortmund from Italy to work as a chef in the catering trade. Massimo was born there in 1986 and is an Italian citizen.

He started playing soccer at TSC Eintracht and then at Borussia Dortmund . He stayed with Borussia until the U-19 and was also used several times in the U-23 in the Regionalliga Nord in his last year of youth .

He then moved to Arminia Bielefeld , for whom he played for two years in the second team in the Oberliga Westfalen. Although it was used regularly, it was only at the end that it was used for several game days in a row over 90 minutes.

In 2007 he went to league competitor Preußen Münster . Ornatelli was often only a substitute there at the beginning, but in the end of the season he was always on the starting line-up and became champion with the SCP. In the following three years he was a regular player in the regional league. In the 2010/11 season he completed his 100th league game for the Münsteraner. After being assigned a role in attacking midfield by coach Marc Fascher , he became the central game designer. With a series of nine wins in a row, the team secured first place and promotion to the third division by a large margin . In the 3-0 win over FC 08 Homburg , the Italian scored all goals and with his eight goals this season he was the SCP's second-best goalscorer behind Babacar N'Diaye . After the rise, Ornatelli continued in the third division seamlessly from the previous season. After other players left, he was the longest-serving player in his fifth season at Preußen Münster and at 25 a key player and darling of the public.

In the summer break of 2012 Ornatelli moved to the second division club SC Paderborn 07 ; he signed a two-year contract.

On July 26, 2013, he signed a contract with third division club VfL Osnabrück .

For the 2016/17 season he moved to FSV Frankfurt . With the FSV, Ornatelli missed relegation and then rejoined Borussia Dortmund's U-23, who played in the Regionalliga West .
