Babacar "Baba" N'Diaye (born December 12, 1973 in Thiès , Senegal ) is a Senegalese football coach and former football player who has spent his career in Germany since 1994 . He has been team manager at RB Leipzig since summer 2017 .

Career

The striker began his career in Senegal with US Rail Thiès . He also played four national games for Senegal's U-21 national team. Previously, as a child and adolescent, "Air Baba", as he was called in Hanover, had systematically learned and played basketball and was a member of Senegal's U-18 national basketball team, but then made the decision in favor of football.

Amateur clubs in Germany

In 1994 he moved to Germany, where he first played for 1. FC Union Solingen in the Oberliga Nordrhein. The change came about because his hometown Thiès is twinned with Solingen . In the amateur field he also played for FC Wehr 1912 and in the regional league for Wuppertaler SV .

Hannover 96

In 1998 he moved to the then regional division Hannover 96 , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . Here "Air Baba" quickly became a crowd favorite, was known for its tremendous sprinting speed, but also notorious in the higher class for its technical deficiencies on the ball, numerous tripping and playback errors. After three years in the second division, in which N'Diaye had played 46 games for Hannover (nine goals), he and his team were promoted to the Bundesliga . Due to great competition in attack, he only played five games in the 2002/03 season (one goal against 1. FC Nürnberg ).

Loan to FC St. Pauli

At the beginning of 2003 N'Diaye moved back to the second division at FC St. Pauli , where he was a top performer, but was relegated to the Regionalliga Nord .

LR Ahlen

Babacar N'Diaye stayed in the 2nd division, he was signed by LR Ahlen . During his two years with the Münsterländer he made a name for himself as a technically good striker who, however, often misses opportunities. He scored ten goals in 54 games for Ahlen.

Unterhaching

In summer 2005 he moved to Unterhaching . In his first second division game for SpVgg, he scored against SC Paderborn 07 . He also scored the winning goal against 1. FC Saarbrücken in the second round of the DFB Cup . After he had been a regular at the beginning of the season, he was later mostly only used as a substitute and scored five goals this season. In the following season he scored one goal in 24 missions and was relegated with SpVgg from the 2nd Bundesliga.

In early January 2007, N'Diaye received a request from the Gambian Football Association for an international match against Saudi Arabia, but refused.

Carl Zeiss Jena and SC Verl

For the 2007/08 season, N'Diaye had initially not found a club before he signed with the second division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena in October 2007 . Although actually planned for the first team, he only played twice in the second team for which he scored a goal. N'Diaye was sorted out by coach Henning Bürger and switched to the Regionalliga Nord for SC Verl during the winter break . After the end of the 2007/08 season, his contract with the Losers was not extended at their own request.

Türkiyemspor Berlin

After N'Diaye had initially not found a club and had kept himself fit in the VDV training camp of the clubless professionals , he signed with the fourth division Türkiyemspor Berlin in November 2008 and scored twice on his debut against Sachsen Leipzig on November 8 to win 2-0. On January 12, 2009, he terminated his contract with Türkiyemspor.

SV Babelsberg

January 2009 he had an engagement until the end of the season with league competitor SV Babelsberg 03 .

TSV Havelse

In the 2009/10 season Babacar N'Diaye played for the Lower Saxony upper division TSV Havelse . He scored 27 times in 28 games for Havelser. In the relegation games to the Regionalliga Nord he was able to score a goal in two games and was thus decisively involved in the championship in the Oberliga Niedersachsen West and in the promotion to the 2010/11 season .

SC Preußen Münster

Babacar N'Diaye received a one-year contract with Preußen Münster for the 2010/11 regional league season. This was extended in March 2011 by one year to summer 2012. In 2012, N'Diaye became the assistant coach of Pawel Dotschew at Preußen Münster and was also available as a “standby player”, but without being used again in a league game before he finally ended his active career in the summer of 2013 . In May 2014, he extended his contract, which expired at the end of the season, for two more years until June 30, 2016.

RB Leipzig

In May 2017, N'Diaye was hired as a team manager at RB Leipzig .
