Josef Thelen
Josef "Jupp" Thelen (born February 25, 1941 - † June 3, 2007 ) was a German football player .
The defender began his career at the amateur club SG Eschweiler in the third-class association league. In 1963 Jupp Thelen moved to the Regionalliga West at Alemannia Aachen , for which he was active until 1970. With Alemannia he was in the DFB Cup final in 1965 against Borussia Dortmund and in 1967 he reached the semi-finals against Hamburger SV again . In the same year, it was the 1966/67 Regionalliga season , Josef Thelen won the championship with Aachen and was first in the promotion round to the Bundesliga . The defender made his debut in the Bundesliga on matchday 4 in a 1-0 win at Borussia Neunkirchen. In the 1968/69 season he was German runner-up behind Bayern Munich with Alemannia Aachen . A year later, however, the relegation from the Bundesliga followed and Thelen ended his contract playing career.
Josef Thelen played a total of 88 Bundesliga games (one goal) and 88 games in the Regionalliga West.
