Markus Weissenberger (born March 8, 1975 in Lauterach ) is a former Austrian football player .
His two brothers Thomas and Philipp were also active as professional football players.
society
Weissenberger began his career at FC Hard and later at Dornbirn. His first big club was SV Spittal / Drau in Carinthia . In 1995 he came to his first professional club LASK . With good performances he was not only able to inspire the Austrian team boss Otto Barić , but also talent scouts from Germany ; In 1999 he signed a contract with Arminia Bielefeld .
His stay in Germany ended nine years later, at Eintracht Frankfurt . He played in Germany for two years for Arminia, three for TSV 1860 Munich and four for Eintracht. In 2008 Weissenberger returned to Austria and signed a contract with LASK until the end of the 2008/09 season. During the season, the contract was extended for another year until the end of the 2009/10 season; However, Weissenberger was absent for a whole year due to a metatarsal fracture, which was further complicated by a hospital germ. On May 12, 2010, LASK announced that it would no longer extend the Vorarlberger's contract for the coming season. The player ended his professional career and now works as a player advisor.
In the summer of 2010 he moved to the Upper Austrian regional division Union Pregarten.
National team
Markus Weissenberger made his debut in the Austrian national team on August 18, 1999 against Sweden . His only international goal was against Slovakia on March 27, 2002 . He was part of the extended Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship in his own country, but team boss Josef Hickersberger did not nominate Vorarlberger, as he had torn a tendon in the last championship game of the German Bundesliga with the Eintracht against MSV Duisburg and was therefore not fit for Hickersberger was enough to help the team at the EM.
