Thomas Weissenberger (born May 28, 1971 ) is a former Austrian national soccer player .

Career

As a player

Weissenberger began his career in June 1979 as a youth player at FC Hard . He played there for eleven years before moving to SV Spittal / Drau in 1990 . He played for this club for two years and then moved to the German Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg .

He made his first game for 1. FC Nürnberg against VfB Stuttgart , which was lost 3-0. After a year and 15 games for 1. FC Nürnberg, he moved back to the Austrian second division for LASK in 1993 , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in the summer of 1994 . In total, he played 59 league games for LASK and scored 22 goals. In 1996 he played two games in the Intertoto Cup with LASK. In January 1997 he moved to FC Admira Wacker Mödling , for whom he played twelve games in the second half of the 1996/97 season and scored one goal. From the 1997/98 season he played for SC Austria Lustenau . For this club he played in 17 games until 1999 and scored one goal. At the beginning of the 1999/2000 season he moved to First Vienna FC 1894 and shortly afterwards to DSV Leoben . He then played for SV Spittal / Drau, SAK Klagenfurt , WSG Radenthein , ASKÖ Fürnitz and SV Rothenthurn. In 2008 he ended his career.

National team

In the Austrian national team Thomas Weissenberger played on April 20, 1994 under the then national coach Herbert Prohaska against Scotland (1: 2). This was his only assignment in the senior national team. He came on for Toni Polster in the 62nd minute ; at that time he was active for LASK in the second Austrian division.

family

Weissenberger comes from a soccer family; his brothers Markus and Philipp were also active as professional footballers.
