Miroslav Holeňák (born February 10, 1976 in Zlín ) is a former Czech football player .
Club career
Miroslav Holeňák started playing football at the age of eight with TJ Gottwaldov . In the 1993/94 season, the midfielder was used for the first time in the professional team. Holeňák was able to quickly develop a regular position and was signed by Petra Drnovice in 1996 .
After four years in Drnovice Holeňák moved to Slovan Liberec for 14 million crowns and had a large share in the championship win in 2002. He was also appointed to the Czech national team. In Liberec Holeňák was transformed from a midfielder to a central defender .
At the end of 2003, it looked like Miroslav Holeňák would move to Sparta Prague , ultimately choosing its biggest rival Slavia Prague . In the 2004/05 season he completed 22 games in which he scored one goal, in 2005/06 he was only used 17 times and scored two goals.
After his contract expired, Holeňák moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club SV Mattersburg in the summer of 2006 on a free transfer . After only a year, Holeňák returned to the Czech Republic and signed with Slovan Liberec. He ended his career there in 2011. He then worked in the Liberec youth department. Since 2018 he has been assistant trainer under David Holoubek .

National team
Miroslav Holeňák made his debut on March 27, 2002 in the Czech national team in a 0-0 win against Wales in Cardiff . His second appearance was on April 17th of the same year in a 0-0 draw against Greece in Ioannina . For the time being the last time for the Czech Republic Holeňák played on August 21, 2002 in a 4-1 win against Slovakia in Olomouc .
For the international match against Austria on October 11, 2003 Miroslav Holeňák was in the squad, but was not used.
