The Bray Wanderers Association Football Club , ( Irish Cumann Peile Fánaithe Bhré ) is an Irish football club from the city of Bray founded in 1922/42 . The Bray Wanderers have played in the League of Ireland continuously since 1985 , currently in the higher season, the Premier Division .

history

The first team to be called Bray Wanderers was formed in Bray in 1922; it was very successful in lower-tier football, but broke up in the mid-1930s. In 1942 the team was re-established, this date is seen by the club as the beginning of today's club. She initially played in the Athletic Union League but moved to the more powerful Leinster Senior League for the 1954/55 season , whose championship she won three times in a row at the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s; but after the 1961 season they moved back to the lower-class Athletic Union League and even stopped playing in 1963.

In 1973 the remnants of the club were merged with the Bray Unknowns , a club of the Leinster Senior League , and play operations resumed under the name Bray Wanderers . When the League of Ireland was increased to 22 teams in 1985, the Wanderers received one of the new starting places; They started in the lower of the two seasons, the First Division , but rose to the Premier Division in the first year . They were rarely able to assert themselves there, so that they became a veritable elevator crew; In the 20 seasons they played only eight years first class and always in the lower half of the table except for fourth place in 2000/01; currently they have been top notch since being promoted in 2004.
