The Hovedserien 1955/56 was the twelfth season of the highest Norwegian football league and the eighth season under the name Hovedserien . The season began on July 31, 1955 and ended with the final on June 3, 1956.

mode

The 16 teams played against each other in two groups, each with eight teams, in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 14 games. The two last placed had to be relegated.

The champion was determined in a final game between the two group winners. Compared to the previous season, some of the groups have been redistributed.

season

Larvik TIF became Norwegian champions for the second time in a row. It was the third title overall.

FK Kvik and IL Varegg had to relegate from the newcomers . Frigg Oslo FK and SK Rapid Moss were able to hold out in the Hovedserien .
