The 1. Divisjon 1973 was the 29th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the eleventh season under the name 1. Divisjon . The season began on May 1, 1973 and ended on October 14, 1973.

The twelve teams played against each other in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 22 games. Champion was the leader after the last match day. The last three teams had to be relegated.

season

Viking Stavanger became Norwegian champions for the second time in a row. It was the third title for this team.

From the second to the last match day, Viking led the table. By the middle of the season, they were at least four to a maximum of six points ahead. They were able to secure the championship on the penultimate matchday.

Of the promoters Frigg Oslo FK , Raufoss IL and Start Kristiansand , only Frigg had to relegate.

For the first time in the history of the 1. Divisjon at the end of the season with Mjøndalen IF and Raufoss IL two teams had both the same number of points and goal difference.
