The 1. Divisjon 1990 was the 46th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the 28th season under the name 1. Divisjon . The season began on April 28, 1990 and ended on October 7, 1990.
It was the last season under the name 1. Divisjon. From the coming season, this name was taken over by the second highest division. The top division was named Tippeligaen .
mode
Twelve teams played against each other in the league in a simple round-trip, so that each team played 22 games. The tenth-placed and third-last had to play relegation games against the two runners-up in the 2nd division (groups A and B) to stay in the league.
season
The season was very even (there were a total of seven teams that took first place at least once), no team was able to break away from the others by more than three points. Most of the time Tromsø IL led the table, often only because of the better goal difference. Only three game days before the end, Rosenborg Trondheim took over the top of the table and finally became champions for the sixth time.
Rosenborg also won the cup competition that year and thus secured the double. The two newcomers Fyllingen IL and Strømsgodset IF were able to hold the classes.

Relegation
Lillestrøm was able to prevail in the relegation games against the table runners-up in Group A and B of the second division and thus remained in the top division in Norwegian football.
