Season course

For the first time since 1991 a team other than Rosenborg BK won . After thirteen championships in a row, the club only achieved 7th place and thus did not even qualify for a European competition.

The season was characterized by excitement until the last game of the season. In the preliminary round, the team of the promoted IK Start was at the top of the table. They were able to work out a lead of up to six points. In the second half of the season Vålerenga Oslo came up. The lead changed constantly between these two teams. The decision was made on the last day of the game. Although Vålerenga Oslo only played a draw, they became champions as IK Start lost at home at the same time.

Molde FK won the cup for the second time after 1994 .

Of the two newcomers, only IK Start was able to hold onto the Tippeligaen . Aalesunds FK had to relegate to the 1st divisjon again .
