The 1. Divisjon 1982 was the 38th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the 20th season under the name 1. Divisjon . The regular season began on April 25, 1982 and ended on October 10, 1982.

The twelve teams played against each other in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 22 games. Champion was the leader after the last match day. The last two teams had to be relegated. The third from last had to go to a relegation round against the two runners-up in the 2nd division (group A and B).
season
Viking Stavanger became Norwegian champion for the seventh time.
At the beginning the season was characterized by balance. However, only three teams were at the top for the entire season: Vålerengens IF for the first five game days, Bryne IL until the ninth game day and then Viking for the rest of the season. After the first half of the season, however, the first nine teams were separated by only four points. In the course of the second half of the season, the picture changed only slightly. Only Viking was able to break away a little - except for three points - but after matchday 19 they were only one point ahead of Lillestrøm SK and the next four teams were only three points behind Viking. Since the pursuers weakened in the last games, Viking was able to secure the championship on the penultimate matchday.
Of the promoters Mjøndalen IF , Molde FK and Sogndal IL , only Mjøndalen managed to stay in the league.

Relegation
Eik IF was able to prevail in the relegation against the two runners-up in the 2nd Divisjon and rose. Fredrikstad FK had to relegate to the 2nd division, Steinkjer remained second class.
