The Hovedserien 1950/51 was the seventh season of the highest Norwegian football league and the third season under the name Hovedserien . The season began on August 6, 1950 and ended with the second final game on June 26, 1951.
The 16 teams played against each other in two groups, each with eight teams, in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 14 games. The two last placed had to be relegated.
The champion was determined in two finals between the two group winners. Compared to the previous season, some of the groups have been redistributed.

Fredrikstad FK dominated Group A and were leaders all season. In Group B, promoted Odds BK secured participation in the final on the last day of the match against their closest rivals SFK Lyn Oslo . In the finals, Fredrikstad prevailed in two games and became Norwegian champions for the fourth time.
