The 1. Divisjon 1966 was the 22nd season of the highest Norwegian football league and the fourth season under the name 1. Divisjon . The season began on April 22, 1966 and ended on October 23, 1966.

mode

The 10 teams played against each other in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 18 games. Champion was the leader after the last match day. The last two teams had to be relegated.

season

Skeid became Norwegian champion for the first time.

The season was very balanced until the end of the first half of the season. After the ninth game day, the first five teams were only two points apart. Only in the course of the second half of the season Skeid was able to develop a lead of up to four points. However, they gambled this away again, and so they went into the final game day with only one point ahead. With a 1-0 victory they finally reached the championship.

The two newly promoted IL Hødd and Lisleby FK had to relegate again.
