The Åråsen Stadium ( Norwegian Åråsen Stadium ) is a football stadium in the Norwegian city of Lillestrøm . It is the home of the Lillestrøm SK football club .

history

In the first half of the 20th century Lillestrøm SK played on different courses. In 1947 a committee began planning its own stadium. On September 29, 1947, it was decided to purchase the property intended for this purpose. The land was reclaimed and the Åråsen Stadium was finally opened on July 7, 1951. At that time the stadium had a grandstand for 2500 spectators and could hold a maximum of 6000 spectators. The field was 108 × 67 meters. The construction costs amounted to 150,000 Norwegian kroner ; In addition, around 31,000 hours of voluntary work were invested.

The opening game on July 7, 1951 denied Lillestrøm SK and Sarpsborg FK . Lillestrøm won 3-2, but Sarpsborg scored the first goal in the new stadium.

Until 1960 the stadium was expanded several times. On April 7, 1967, a fire broke out in the stands and destroyed parts of the stadium. The destroyed building was rebuilt and the stadium expanded. The attendance record dates back to 1993. 13,595 spectators saw the game between Lillestrøm SK and Rosenborg Trondheim .

At the end of the 1990s, the expansion to the current state began. In 2000, the west grandstand ( Strømmen Storsenter-tribune ) was completed, then in 2001 the north grandstand (then adidas-tribunes , now diadora-tribune ) and in 2002 finally the east grandstand ( RB Tribune ). Since then, the Åråsen Stadium has a capacity of 12,250 spectators.

Floodlight masts

Due to its proximity to Kjell Airport, Åråsen Stadium was not allowed to have a permanent floodlight system. Temporary floodlight poles were set up for each game. Today the stadium has extendable floodlight masts. They have a minimum height of twelve meters and are extended to 40 m during games.
