The Sarpsborg Stadium is a football stadium in the Norwegian city of Sarpsborg in Fylke Viken . It is the home of the first division soccer team Sarpsborg 08 Fotballforening and was the home of the soccer clubs Sarpsborg FK and FK Sparta Sarpsborg . The stadium, owned by Sarpsborg Municipality , has 4,930 seats. The sports facility consists of the covered main grandstand; the uncovered standing grandstand on the back straight as well as two tubular steel grandstands with open-air seating placed directly behind the gates. The standing level in the south curve of the stadium is no longer in use. In the long term, the stadium is to be expanded. The guest block is located in the east stand.
The Sarpsborg Stadium opened in 1930. In 2000 the stadium received a new main stand with 1,178 seats and new changing rooms. An extensive renovation followed in 2006. The sports facility has had an artificial turf play area since April 2009 and a floodlight system was set up in October of that year . As part of the renovation work, the athletics facility was removed.
In the 1970/71 season, the Sarpsborg FK played in the trade fair cup and met the English team from Leeds United in the first round . In the first leg at Sarpsborg Stadium, FK Leeds United lost 1-0. After a 0: 5 in the second leg Sarpsborg FK was eliminated against the eventual title holder.
