The Melløs Stadium ( Norwegian Melløs stadium ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Melløs district of the Norwegian municipality of Moss , Viken province . The former first division club Moss FK , currently in the third class PostNord-Ligaen , has played its games since the beginning . The Rapid Athene football club and the Moss IL athletics club also use the facility. The stadium has 9,410 seats, 2,410 of which are seats. There are four more soccer fields around the venue, one of them with artificial turf .

history

In 1930 the Moss municipality approved NOK 165,000 for the construction of a sports facility. But it was to be almost ten years before the opening could take place on May 21, 1939. In 1971 the Melløs Stadium was used as a speed skating rink . The Norwegian men's speed skating all-around championships were held on January 16 and 17. In 1987 a semi-final of the European Women's Football Championship took place in Melløs Stadium. Ten years later, it was one of a total of five stadiums for the 1997 European Women's Football Championship and the venue for three games in Group B. In 1990, the Moss stadium hosted the Norwegian Athletics Championships.

At the end of the 2000s, plans were circulating for the new building with 8,500 seats for 215 million NOK (around 24 million euros ) called Melløs Arena . The new building should be ready for the 2010 season. However, the city abandoned the plans because of the high costs. Instead, over 41 million NOK (approx. 4.5 million euros) was invested in the renovation of the Melløs Stadium. The attendance record dates back to 2003, when Moss FK faced Fredrikstad FK and 10,085 visitors filled the Melløs Stadium. The football clubs SK Rapid and Athene Moss used the venue until 2011 . Then they merged to form the new Rapid Athene club.

So far, the Norwegian U-21 men's national soccer team has played two international matches in the stadium in Moss. On September 11, 1979, they separated from Belgium with a 0-0 draw. The Norwegians lost against Denmark on August 22, 2007 with a 2-0 draw.
