Franz Xaver Kosler (born August 16, 1864 in Vienna , † December 15, 1905 in Syracuse ) was an Austrian genre and portrait painter , often active in the Balkans and Egypt.

Kosler studied from 1881 to 1884 in Vienna at the general painting school under the direction of Christian Griepenkerl , then at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and from 1884 to 1885 at the special school for history painting under Leopold Carl Müller .

Kosler undertook study trips to the Balkans in 1886 and thanks to the archducal support he visited Egypt several times since 1892, where he organized an exhibition of his works in Cairo.

Kosler was successful both as a portraitist of prominent people and as a genre painter of Egyptian street scenes.
