For the football season 1981/82 Silvio Demuth was nominated as a defender for the first time for the junior league team of 1. FC Magdeburg . After his school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a foundry worker. Demuth never made it into the first men's team of the FCM, so he moved in July 1984 together with his club mate Jens Pahlke to the league promoted Stahl Brandenburg. But Pahlke of all people initially became the fiercest competitor for Demuth for a place in the defense. On the 9th matchday of the 1984/85 season, October 27, 1984, Demuth came to his first league use in the game forward Frankfurt - steel (1: 1), when he was substituted in the 68th for Pahlke.
