Serhij Rebrow ( Ukrainian Сергій Ребров , scientific transliteration Serhij Rebrov , Russian Сергей Ребров / Sergei Rebrow ; born June 3, 1974 in Horlivka , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian football player and current coach . In 1996 and 1998 Rebrow was Ukrainian Footballer of the Year . He is also the record scorer in the Ukrainian league with 123 goals.

Career

Rebrow played for Shakhtar Donetsk during his youth . He joined Dynamo Kiev in 1992 at the age of 18 . At Dynamo he formed a successful storm duo with Andrij Shevchenko . Rebrow won eight league titles and five cup wins at Dynamo Kiev. Internationally, he caused a sensation in the 1998/99 season when he reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with Kiev . Shevchenko left Kiev after this season and moved to AC Milan . A year later, Rebrow did the same and signed with Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee of just under 18 million euros. However, at no time was Rebrow able to meet the expectations placed on him. In the winter break of the 2002/03 season, Rebrow was loaned to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for a year and a half, but he only made 38 games and 4 goals there. In 2004 the Ukrainian was bought by the English second division side West Ham United , but could not assert himself there either. In 2005 Rebrow moved back to the Ukraine back to Dynamo Kiev. In the 2005/06 season he was Dynamo's top scorer with 13 goals, even though he mostly played in midfield. Even if he couldn't win the Ukrainian championship that season, he was voted the best player of the season. In March 2008, he signed a two-year contract with the Russian first division club Rubin Kazan , with whom he won their first Russian championship title in his first year . In July 2009 Rebrow ended his active career and moved to the coaching staff of Dynamo Kiev.

International

In the Ukrainian national team , Rebrow is in fourth place on the list of record players with 75 appearances (15 goals) (status: March 22, 2009) . He was also appointed to the 23-man squad for the 2006 World Cup by Ukrainian national coach Oleh Blochin . He ended his national team career shortly after the World Cup in autumn 2006.

Trainer

After his playing career, he started a career as a coach. Rebrow was assistant coach to Volodymyr Muntian, Dynamo Kiev's second team, from 2009 to 2010 . Between August 2010 and April 2011 Rebrow acted briefly as assistant coach to Yuri Kalitvintsev for the Ukrainian national soccer team . After Kalitvintseev's dismissal, as national coach, he returned to Dynamo Kiev to assist Oleg Blochin . On April 16, 2014 Blochin was sacked and Rebrow was appointed interim coach of the Dynamo Kiev club in his place. There he was promoted to permanent head coach on May 19, 2014.
