Osaze Peter Odemwingie (born July 15, 1981 in Tashkent , Russian Осазе Питер Одемвингие Osase Piter Odemwingie ) is a Nigerian football player with a Russian mother and a Nigerian father. He also has a Russian passport.
Career
The striker comes from the youth department of the PFK CSKA Moscow , where he turned pro in 1998. After a season he left Russia and went to his father's homeland in Nigeria for Bendel Insurance FC . There he recommended himself for an engagement in Europe. At the beginning of the 2002/03 season, the Belgian club RAA La Louvière Odemwingie signed. In his first year he was able to win the Belgian Football Cup with the team.
Before the 2005/06 season, Odemwingie went to France and signed a contract with Lille OSC . For the OSC, he scored 23 times in 75 games. In the summer of 2007 Odemwingie moved to Lokomotiv Moscow , where he signed a four-year contract. The transfer fee was 10 million euros. After 74 games and 20 goals, he moved to the English club West Bromwich Albion in August 2010 for two million pounds . In his first game for his new employer, he scored his first goal against Sunderland AFC . Since September 3, 2013 Odemwingie was under contract with the promoted Premier League, Cardiff City.
On January 28, 2014 Odemwingie moved to Stoke City , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2015. In return, Kenwyne Jones moved to Cardiff.
National team
Peter Odemwingie has played 49 times for Nigeria and scored ten goals. With the team he also took part in the 2004 African Cup of Nations, where he scored three goals in five games. When Africa Cup 2010 he scored twice.
At the soccer World Cup 2014 he scored in the second group game against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 29th minute of the game to the decisive 1-0 winner.
