The Faroe Islands Premier League in 2008 was in the Formuladeildin first mentioned Faroese played league and overall was the 66th season. It started on March 29, 2008 with B36 Tórshavn's game against ÍF Fuglafjørður and ended on October 25, 2008.

HB Tórshavn started at the top of the table. After three wins, three draws followed, so that EB / Streymur was able to overtake on matchday six with a record of four wins and two draws. On matchday 12, the lead over HB was already 10 points, so that the table lead could be maintained despite three away defeats in a row between the 13th and 15th matchday. On matchday 20, the old gap was restored, now runner-up was NSÍ Runavík . Only two of the next five games could be won, so that the decision about the championship was not made until the penultimate matchday. EB / Streymur won 3-1 away at Skála ÍF and could not be overtaken by the two chasers HB Tórshavn and B36 Tórshavn, who were tied on points before .

Relegation battle

Skála ÍF found themselves at the bottom of the table after their 8-1 defeat at the beginning of the season against HB Tórshavn. After a 2-1 win against KÍ Klaksvík, the relegation zone could be left briefly, but on the fifth match day the team was back in last place. With a draw, the position was improved by one place, but the next victory came on matchday 13 with a 2-0 at B68 Toftir . From the 15th matchday on the tenth place was occupied again, in the remaining games only two wins. After the 25th matchday Skála was the first to be relegated after KÍ Klaksvík won the home game against ÍF Fuglafjørður 4-2 and the gap to eighth place in the table could not be made up.

B71 Sandur started the season with one draw and two defeats. The first win came on the fourth matchday with a 3-1 against Skála ÍF. Since the next five games were lost, the team slipped into the relegation zone and took last place from the seventh matchday, only on matchday 13 succeeded with a 2-0 against KÍ Klaksvík the second win. However, this was followed by two more successes, so that the relegation zone could be left again on matchday 15, but only because of the better goal difference compared to B68 Toftir. Already on the next match day, the ninth place was occupied again, in the remaining games only two more victories followed. After the 0-1 home defeat on the 26th matchday against Víkingur Gøta they were determined as the second relegated.

    In the national cup , champions EB / Streymur won 3-2 against B36 Tórshavn and thus achieved the double .

    European Cup

    2008/09 NSÍ Runavík played as champions of the previous year in qualifying for the Champions League . Away at Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia) the game was lost 3-0, the second leg NSÍ won 1-0.

    EB / Streymur played last year’s cup winners in qualifying for the UEFA Cup and lost both the first leg and the second leg 2-0 to Manchester City (England).

    B36 Tórshavn also played in qualifying for the UEFA Cup. The first leg at Brøndby IF (Denmark) lost B36 0-1, the second leg in Tórshavn was lost 2-0.

    HB Tórshavn played in the UI Cup . At home, HB lost 4-1 to IF Elfsborg (Sweden) in the first round , the second leg ended 0-0.
