Accumoli is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio with 585 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 142 kilometers northeast of Rome and 68 kilometers northeast of Rieti .

geography

Accumoli is located in the upper valley of the Tronto , on Via Salaria at the foot of the Monti della Laga . It is the northernmost municipality in the Rieti Province. The municipality belongs to the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park .

Accumoli is a member of the Comunità Montana del Velino .

The municipality includes the districts of Cassino, Casaventre, Colleposta, Collespada, Fonte del Campo, Grisciano, Illica, Libertino, Macchia, Poggio Casoli, Poggio D'Api, Roccasalli, San Giovanni, Terracino and Villanova.

The neighboring towns are Amatrice , Arquata del Tronto ( AP ), Cittareale , Norcia ( PG ), Valle Castellana ( TE ).

The municipality of Accumoli is crossed by Via Salaria SS 4, which leads from Rome via Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast near Porto d'Ascoli .

history

Accumoli was founded in the 12th century. The community belonged to the Kingdom of Naples until 1860 . In 1927 she came from the province of Aquila degli Abruzzi to the province of Rieti and thus to Lazio.

On August 24, 2016 (as it was before in 1639) the village was badly damaged by an earthquake . There were dead and injured.
